Association of Hearing Instrument Practitioners

The AHIP convention was held April 20–23 in Richmond Hill, Ontario. The meeting had its largest attendance to date with over 280 attendees and 25 exhibitors. The NBC-HIS examination was offered to attendees as well as the opportunity to earn 12 continuing education credit hours.

Kansas Hearing Society

The Kansas Hearing Society held its annual meeting March 18–19 in Topeka. IHS Governor Bruce Sharp, BC-HIS, ACA, was on hand to meet with nearly 100 attendees. Twelve continuing education hours were available.

Officers elected at the meeting were Kevin Albee, CCCA, president and Jeffrey Moore, PhD, vice-president. The membership approved a name change from the Kansas Hearing Aid Association to the Kansas Hearing Society.

Mid-Atlantic Hearing Expo

The Mid-Atlantic Hearing Expo took place March 17–19 in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania with over 260 attendees and 36 exhibitors. Ten continuing education hours were offered. IHS Governor Michael Moran, BC-HIS, was present to discuss IHS issues with attendees.

The expo is a joint meeting with the Hearing Society of Maryland, Washington, DC and Delaware; the Pennsylvania Hearing Aid Alliance; and the Virginia Society of Hearing Aid Specialists.

James Ferrell, BC-HIS, was appointed president of the Pennsylvania Hearing Aid Alliance and James Saad, BC-HIS, was named vice-president.

Missouri Hearing Society

The Missouri Hearing Society met in St. Louis on March 10–12. Over 140 people were present, along with 20 exhibitors. IHS President-Elect Neil Waingrow, BC-HIS, helped the Society raise over $10,000 at their silent auction. IHS Treasurer James Ogurek, BC-HIS, was also in attendance to help update the group on IHS activities.

Tennessee Hearing Society

The Tennessee Hearing Society recently held its annual meeting in Nashville on March 12–13. Attendees had the opportunity to earn 10 continuing education hours and the NBC-HIS exam was offered.
A senate resolution was presented to honor four members of the Society for their years of commitment and service to the hearing impaired. The following is excerpted from senate resolution 15:

Be it resolved by the senate of the 104th general assembly of the state of Tennessee that we hereby honor and commend Thomas Stewart, BC-HIS; Thomas (Andy) Stewart, BC-HIS; Kenneth Kelly, BC-HIS; and Gary Kelly, BC-HIS, upon their combined 91 years of meritorious service to the hearing impaired population, salute their distinguished and productive tenure as outstanding service providers, and extend to them our best wishes for every continued success in their future endeavors.

Western Canadian Symposium

The Hearing Instrument Specialist Society of British Columbia hosted the 16th Annual Western Canadian Symposium on March 17–19 in Vancouver. IHS Secretary John Letts, BC-HIS, met with over 170 attendees. Eleven continuing education hours were available and the NBC-HIS exam was offered. THP
